Although Bikini, Fit Model and Bikini Pro all fall under the NPC/IFBB Pro League umbrella, each division has slightly different expectations. Choosing the right style not only ensures you meet the rules, but also helps present your physique in the best possible way.

This guide explains the current bikini requirements for each division and what to consider when ordering your competition bikini in terms for size and design.

NPC Amateur Bikini Rules

NPC Amateur Bikini is designed to reward a balanced, feminine physique with good shape, conditioning and stage presence.

Unlike some federations, the NPC allows competitors a lot of freedom when choosing their bikini.

Bikini Top

Most amateur competitors choose either:

• Triangle cup bikini

• Moulded cup bikini

Both are completely acceptable and the choice comes down to personal preference.

Moulded cups tend to provide more structure and create a fuller, rounder shape, while soft cups offer a lighter, more natural fit.

Crystal connectors, rhinestones and decorative centre pieces are all permitted.

Bikini Bottoms

NPC Bikini bottoms generally feature:

• U or V-shaped front

• Brazilian or Pro Cut back

• Moderate rear coverage

• High hip straps to elongate the legs

The aim is to flatter your physique while still remaining elegant.

Colours

Almost any colour can be worn on an NPC stage. The most common colours seen on the Olympia stage are Reds, Blues, Purples, Pinks & Teal/Greens.

Shoes

NPC Bikini competitors wear clear competition heels with approximately a 5-inch heel and clear platform. Rhinestone embellishments can also be added for extra sparkle and stage presence, allowing you to personalise your look while complementing your bikini. 

Jewellery

Jewellery is optional but is very commonly worn in NPC Bikini competitions. Most competitors choose silver rhinestone jewellery, such as earrings, bracelets and rings, to add a touch of sparkle on stage.

The jewellery should complement your bikini and overall presentation without distracting from your physique.

NPC Fit Model Rules

NPC Fit Model is one of the newest divisions and has been created for competitors wanting a softer, more attainable look while still rewarding athleticism.

The overall presentation is more elegant and understated than Bikini.

Bikini Top

Fit Model bikinis feature:

• Rounded front

• No crystal connectors

• Fabric straps

• Soft cup or moulded cup

The overall appearance should be clean and classic.

Bikini Bottoms

Bottoms provide more coverage than Bikini.

Typical features include:

• Rounded front

• Approximately two-thirds rear coverage

• Fabric sides

• No connector stones

The emphasis is on balance and elegance rather than a highly revealing cut.

Colours

As with NPC Bikini, almost any colour is permitted in the Fit Model division. Since rhinestone embellishments and crystal connectors are not allowed, many competitors choose shiny, holographic or high-shine fabrics to help their bikini catch the stage lights and create a beautiful sparkle while maintaining the clean, elegant look required for the division.

Shoes

The same clear competition heels used in Bikini are worn for Fit Model. Rhinestone embellishment on the heels is allowed for an extra sparkle and stage presence.

Overall Look

Hair, makeup and presentation should appear polished but not overdone.

Judges are looking for:

• Healthy appearance

• Symmetry

• Proportion

• Confidence

• Natural stage presence

NPC / IFBB Pro League Bikini Rules

Once athletes earn their Pro Card, presentation becomes even more important, as you're competing against the best athletes in the world. Every detail matters, and your bikini should help you stand out while perfectly complementing your physique.

While the overall bikini style remains similar to amateur competitions, there are a few subtle fit and design differences that are commonly seen on the Pro League stage.

Bikini Top

The bikini top is largely the same as in the amateur division, with most professional athletes choosing either a triangle or moulded cup.

Bikini Bottoms

Professional Bikini competitors commonly choose:

• Pro Cut bottoms

• U-front or V-front design

• High hip placement
  

Although slightly smaller cuts are common at professional level, the emphasis remains on elegance rather than simply showing more skin.

Fit Matters

One of the biggest differences between amateur and professional presentation is the fit of the bikini.

A correctly fitted bikini should:

• Sit securely throughout posing

• Create balanced proportions

• Enhance the waistline
